Sunset Beach Living Shoreline

Multifunctional Climate Adaptation

Created at: 01 Sep 2022

Description

Sunset beach is located on the east coast of North Carolina and in 2018 0.2 acres of shoreline were developed and converted into a Living Shoreline. There are around 30 metres of artificial oyster reefs made from concrete and oyster shells that have been placed within the shoreline. They also planted a range of aquatic plants to help create shelter and hold the soil together, including Spartina alterniflora and Spartina Patens marsh grasses. The purpose of developing this shoreline is to help keep its integrity because of the water levels and erosion.
