Description

The Metro Cebu River Scan Challenge 2023 is a joint venture between Filipino and Dutch students hailing from the Rotterdam University, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, and the University of San Carlos. The task at hand requires participants to present a solution for the issues plaguing the river they are assigned, within a time frame of two weeks.

The testing site is a 10-m span of the river which is located near Cityscape Hotel in Cebu City, Philippines. The midstream area is small, positioned in a densely populated residential and commercial region. The river is notorious for its dirty and contaminated waters, a typical predicament for numerous urban waterways in the Philippines. The river was once a vital water source for the local population and played a critical role in the city's initial development. However, the accumulation of domestic wastewater and solid waste discharge has significantly polluted the river over the years.
