Description

The Metro Cebu River Climate Scan 2023 is a 2-week challenge participated by Cebuano-Dutch students from University of San Carlos, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, and Hanze University of Applied Sciences that will study and develop feasible solutions/projects to improve water conditions guided by local and international water experts. In partnership with local governments of Metro Cebu (Cebu City and Mandaue City), the rivers to be studied this year are Mahiga and Butuanon River.

Team 3 is assigned in the midstream portion of the Mahiga River located in Subangdaku, Mandaue City near Innodata. Mahiga River stretches in both cities and is classified by the government to be Class C and D which implies that river is not safe for drinking. The midstream portion of Mahiga river, a flood prone area is being utilized as the wastewater disposal of the residents and/or establishments nearby. Through various tests and research on the designated location, the team is to provide concrete and feasible solutions to resolve the current issues on water quality and flooding.
