New Orleans' groundwater issue

Problem Area - Rainwater Nuisance

Problem Area - Groundwater Trouble

Created at: 12 Mar 2021

Description

The fragile balance of New Orleans' polders is quickly disturbed by construction activities. If the leaky sewer or stormwater drainage pipes would be replaced by closed pipes, the urban area would turn into a swamp. On the other hand, as the groundwater recharge by leaky drinking water pipes is greater than the recharge due to precipitation, fixing the drinking water network would create a water deficit.
