Description

The Milidao dam is crucial for managing water resources for agriculture and aquaculture in the area. Bohol is known for its high production of irrigated rice with the Milidao dam playing a large role in the irrigation.

The dam not only stores water for irrigation during dry spells, but also mitigates the risk of floods caused by extreme weather events. Since floods and droughts are becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change, the dam is more essential than ever.

The dam, inaugerated in February 1996, was constructed by the National Irrigation Administration with financial assistance from the Government of Japan as stage one of the Bohol Irrigation Project. The reservoir has a capacity of 5.9 Million cubic meters and was designed to service 5.000.000 hectares of irrigated land.
