Description

This steeped terraces are knowns as Façade greening in other contexts, which is a design that covers the whole building with greenery. However, the poor performance of the vegetation, such as pest issues and plant deaths, are factors that can set back project progress (Rayner, 2010). However, some studies outside of Oceania regions have revealed steeped terraces' significance restoring biodiversity in an urban environment (Chiquet, 2013). Meanwhile, green walls can help increase water usage efficiency, and many other benefits. The "One Central Park Green Walls" was one of the projects conducted by the Australian government. This project includes more than 350 species, which significantly enhance the biodiversity and habitat quality in an urban environment (Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, 2019). The case study NbS mitigates climate change in multiple ways. The first strategy is to store carbon by vegetation photosynthesis. The second strategy is to increase energy efficiency by reducing indoor temperature. Residents can use less energy for air conditioning, since less solar energy is absorbed by the buidling. The third mitigation is to improve the air quality of the surrounding. By reducing the air pollutants, the atmosphere can then reduce the amount of radiation that reaches the earth's surface, reducing the temperature. Last is using both wastewater and stormwater to generate usable water. This help reduces the risk of water shortage while increasing water usage efficiency. The green walls are proven to promote human well-being, both mental and physical (DeWolf, 2013). In other words, green walls can help increase residents' sense of happiness.
