Tiritiri Matangi Restoration

Floating Green (floatlands, islands)

Created at: 26 Oct 2022

Description

Tiritiri Matangi has nearly 300,000 native trees and is home to rare birds such as takah, stitchbirds, and kakako. More trees meant that more habitat for the island's various bird species was created. This means greater biodiversity and a healthier environment for wildlife. It has also created a recreational space by restoring the island's forests and natural habitat. Hiking trails and walks are available for people to enjoy. The majority of visitors to the island come to see the restoration. The visitors' main message has been how inspiring it is, as well as the importance of Tiri and conservation in general.
