Description
The water playground on the Grote Markt in Breda ( has been in use since April 2022. This special fountain in front of the town hall is shaped like the coat of arms of the city of Breda and has been given the name 'Tijns Waterplein'. Named after Tijn Kolsteren, the boy that got the whole of the Netherlands to paint nails in 2016 (Serious Reguest 2017).
This water playground on the Grote Markt was built under the banner of the Cool Towns project: a collaboration between 14 European partners, aimed at combating the negative effects of climate change and finding attractive solutions that make cities climate-proof and robust, so that heat stress is avoided or limited as much as possible. The municipality of Breda is one of the partners in this project.

De waterspeelplek op de Grote Markt in Breda ( is sinds april 2022 in gebruik genomen. Deze bijzondere fontein voor het stadhuis heeft de vorm van het wapen van de stad Breda en heeft de naam ‘Tijns Waterplein’ gekregen. Vernoemd naar Tijn Kolsteren, het jongetje dat in 2016 heel Nederland aan het nagels lakken kreeg (Serious Reguest).
Deze waterspeelplek op de Grote Markt is aangelegd onder de vlag van het project Cool Towns: een samenwerking tussen 14 Europese partners, gericht op het tegengaan van de negatieve effecten van klimaatverandering en het vinden van aantrekkelijke oplossingen die steden klimaatbestendig en robuust maken, zodat hittestress zo veel mogelijk wordt voorkomen of beperkt. De gemeente Breda is een van de partners in dit project.
